Whaler RAU IX 1 : 45 - Graupner

Small upgrade

The small ladder is also attached to the chimney and the chimney is now finished. Finally I painted it with matt clear varnish.
Then I started with the lifeboats and the associated conditions.

Well, the beginning has been made.

First the 1 mm holes were drilled into the deck and the first supports were glued in, at least until the first arch came into the railing, then support by support was pulled onto the railing and glued into the hole.

By the way, the railing was pretty bent.

I clamped one end in the vice and the other end in the cordless screwdriver, then held it tight and twisted the wire until it was straight. Works really well

Small upgrade.

The supports for the footbridge have also been adjusted and installed.
The footbridge is still lying loosely on the supports.

Then I attached the first part of the handrail to the bridge wall

Hello
Just a small thing...the winch is also glued in place.

I thought the whole time that it was the anchor winch but I'm not entirely sure, I'll have to look at the plan again.

Today, in the warm (32 degrees) trailer, I installed the railing, ladder, guide rollers and the slide on the front deck. Then I bought this book. It is about a sailor who signed on to the Rau in 1938/39 and reports on a whaling trip. What I also didn't know was that the Rau was only a whaler. There was also the mother ship "Walter Rau" where the whales were dismembered. I'm attaching a link. Otherwise, I detest whaling. But because I'm building the Rau, I'm naturally interested in the history of the Rau.

Hi Wolle, just had a look at the book's web site, it looks very interesting I will have to try and find it translated to english. Are there many photographs in it? They would be a real help to you in adding detail. The photo that includes the big winch shows that you have done a good job on your ship. It is all coming together very nice, I really like it. Great job. Jack

Hello Jack
I also googled it again but unfortunately I couldn't find the book in an English version. Yes, there are pictures in the book but unfortunately not many details about the RAU. But it is very interesting. Perhaps you can get some details from the text. But I will try again to see if I can find one in English and then let you know. But I don't have much hope.
